According to the FCA definition, a vulnerable consumer is:\u00a0<\/p><p>\u201csomeone who, due to their personal circumstances, is especially susceptible to detriment, particularly when a firm is not acting with appropriate levels of care\u201d.\u00a0<\/p><p>There are four key drivers of vulnerability:<\/p><p><strong>1. Health<\/strong> &#8211; Physical ailments, emotional insecurities, and anxiety disorders can make people more susceptible to financial difficulties.<\/p><p><strong>2. Life events<\/strong> \u2013 For example, people experiencing bereavement or those burdened with sudden caring responsibilities are often less financially adept.\u00a0<\/p><p><strong>3. Resilience<\/strong> \u2013 The ability to cope with unexpected financial or emotional situations varies from client to client.<\/p><p><strong>4. Capability<\/strong> \u2013 Some people have less understanding and confidence when making financial decisions than others.<\/p><p>Crucially, vulnerability is not necessarily permanent. It can be broad, transient, or situational. In other words, anyone can be vulnerable at any time.
